History
Show & Heal was founded by our Executive Director Xahej “Xi” Bajipura in 2016, as an initiative to strengthen young people sense of social responsibility towards others, through means of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), and self-care/mindfulness initiatives.
The origins of Show & Heal began with interviews and documentary work highlighting individuals from several minoritized and socially excluded groups. The interviews sought to shed light on a common struggle for acceptance and community, but also the diverse and unique qualities that exist within each participant and their respective cultures.
In Fall 2018, Show & Heal later evolved and incorporated an in-person, after-school care programs titled Self-Care 101, which sought to promote community building and educate youth on personalized self-care. Students earn community service hours for their involvement in Show & Heal activities and programs. The better they take care of themselves, the better they will also be able to serve the community.
Our Story
In 2016, Show and Heal began as a YouTube channel, aiming to document and challenge stereotypes surrounding local children from misrepresented populations, such as Sikh and Queer communities.
Since then, we evolved into a nonprofit dedicated to providing a holistic solution to the multi-dimensional challenges faced by our youth. Our inclusive after-school enrichment club for high school students encourages exploration of their cultural identities and lived experiences, fostering an environment where they can seek help without judgment.
Our initiatives range from establishing an in-school mental health referral network to offering self-care and self-awareness tools, organising diversity events and trainings, engaging in community service, and creating educational documentaries.
"I see myself in others and see others in myself as if I am looking in the mirror. I believe all humans are connected to one another in ways that cannot meet the naked eye but can be felt with an open heart."
— Founder, Executive Director, Xahej ¨Xi¨Bajipura
